About us

Cape Town Scottish Dance (CTSD) brings Scottish dancing to more people across the city through classes, afternoon sessions, and ceilidhs. We dream of a lively, welcoming dance community open to everyone, whatever your age, culture, or background. There’s a place for you on the floor, beginner or experienced. Here’s what we currently offer:

What is the Cape Town Ceilidh Club?
The Cape Town Ceilidh Club brings Scottish ceilidh — an evening of dancing, music and fun — to Cape Town. Everyone’s treated as a beginner: each dance is shown, walked through, then danced for real, so even those with “two left feet” can join straight in.

What is Reeltime!?
Reeltime! is for anyone keen to experience ceilidh dancing or go deeper into it, in a smaller, more intimate group than a big public ceilidh. Learn dances like the Eightsome Reel, the Dashing White Sergeant, and the Flying Scotsman. Runs twice monthly, 2-hour sessions, R70 per session or R600 for a 6-month membership.

What is Countrytime!?
Countrytime! is a weekly class in Scottish Country Dancing (SCD) — more formal than ceilidh, with set steps not used on the public ceilidh floor. Enjoyed worldwide, SCD is great exercise for body and mind. New dancers start with an introductory course (6–8 Monday evenings) before moving up a level. Come and join us!
